Pogue's Daily Words of Theatrical Wisdom

"I am evangelical and romantic about theatre because it is one of society's few pockets where it doesn't matter where you come from. You can be a lord's son or a miner's son, but you can come together there."

--LEE HALL, author of the brilliant play, THE PITMAN PAINTERS, currently running at the Royal National Theatre, as well as both the film and stage musical of BILLY ELLIOTT.

Oddly enough, had I not cut the Hynter quote off where I did, it would have gone on to say: "I think: 'Where's Nicholas De Jongh when we need him?' "

While apparently, he was at England Very Nice People and didn't like it!

Lee Hall is passionate about theatre because it is one of very few things in society where it does not matter where you come from. Your back round has nothing to do with theatre, people can be complete opposites of each other and grew up totally different but they can come together in theatre.
